We talked about cleaning toilets a couple weeks ago, oh boy. That was about frequent cleaning including a recipe for a good everyday cleanser to help keep our toilets from getting really dirty. Today we dig deeper, yuck, and offer a recipe for the times when a little more oomph is needed to get the bowl sparkling clean.
Here we make a paste out of baking soda and Castile soap to use like a soft scrub. Castile soap is a fine, hard white or mottled soap made with olive oil & sodium hydroxide. It can be combined with other safe ingredients to use in cleaning your home.
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup castile soap
Stir this until you have a paste. Add a tea spoon or so of water if needed.
To your paste you can add 5-10 drops of Tea Tree Oil, Lemon Oil or even Lavender Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Peppermint Oil, etc., for their disinfectant properties and scent.
For tough stains turn off the water to your toilet using the valve on the back. Flush it to remove most of the water from the bowl then rub the paste right onto the bowl and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing it off.
This paste is not just for toilets, it can be used in the shower, sink, tile, floor you name it.
